A Day at the Races to Benefit the SPCA

Written by Kristen Clinton | Tuesday, October 29, 2013

Sunday was a perfect day to spend at Calder Race Course.  Breezy, sunny and a very comfortable 79 degrees. The best part was Amerihope Alliance Legal Services had the opportunity to sponsor a race for the SPCA horse rescue. Our law firm sponsored the 5th race and although none of us bet on the winning horse, Notalotatrouble, we all enjoyed the day and had lots of laughs.

The South Florida SPCA is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of horses. All the horses rescued are severely neglected and abused and located in the Miami-Dade area.

Sherrill Clark, Operations Manger, volunteers for the SPCA.  During her volunteer work, she met two thriving rescues: Susie, a 4 year old mare and, Justice, a 10 year old gelding. Both horses were rescued after they were found inside a stall that had been nailed shut in Miami-Dade. These horses were found emaciated with their ribs showing and bones protruding, to survive they had to resort eating wood and their own manure.  After meeting them, hearing their story and seeing their before and after pictures Clark decided that it would be a great cause for Amerihope Alliance Legal Services to sponsor.

Our employees that attended had a good time watching the races, chowing down, and participating in the raffle and silent auction. Congratulations to David Ramos, who won a restaurant gift certification and Sherrill Clark who won riding lessons.

We thank the South Florida SPCA for a great day and the wonderful job they do!
